Orange Cap holder keeps raising the bar
Vaibhav Sooryavanshi is not slowing down. He absorbed two sharp yorkers early, then opened up with clean hitting. The power is obvious, but so is the control. Even his fours beat fielders set for him. In nine innings, he now has 400 runs at a strike rate above 230, with 34 fours and 37 sixes.
That balance of attack and consistency stands out. Few manage both across a stretch like this. He looks set every time he walks in.
RR chase powered by early burst
Rajasthan Royals made a strong start in the chase of 223. Sooryavanshi set the tone with 43 off 16, including three fours and five sixes, taking them to 51 in just over three overs.
The powerplay brought 84 for 1, their second-best against Punjab. At 90 for 1 after seven overs, with Yashasvi Jaiswal on 35 off 15, the chase remains on track.
Sooryavanshi’s overall numbers now place him well ahead of the field midway through the tournament, and this innings only adds to that gap.
Prabhsimran sets base, Stoinis explodes at the death
Punjab Kings posted 222 for 4, built on a strong start and a brutal finish. Prabhsimran Singh made 59 off 44 and helped drive the powerplay to 65 for 1, alongside Priyansh Arya’s quick 29. Cooper Connolly added 30 off 14 to keep the tempo up.
The innings dipped slightly in the middle, with Shreyas Iyer managing 30 off 27, but Marcus Stoinis changed the game late. He finished unbeaten on 62 off 22. Punjab scored 55 runs in the last three overs, with 24 coming in the final over alone as Stoinis took apart the bowling.
RR’s plans unclear as changes raise questions
Rajasthan Royals struggled to contain the scoring again. Jofra Archer took 1 for 40, while Yash Punja picked up 2 for 41 after replacing Ravi Bishnoi. The decision to leave out Bishnoi will invite scrutiny, especially with the middle overs needing control.
Dasun Shanaka came into the side but did not bowl, which further adds to the questions around team balance. Ravindra Jadeja and Brijesh Sharma were tidy at times but could not hold things back at the death.
Punjab have now posted another total above 200, and this looks a demanding chase even before their experienced attack comes into play.
