Real Zaragoza have been dealt a major setback after goalkeeper Esteban Andrada was handed a lengthy 13-match suspension by the Royal Spanish Football Federation following a violent on-field incident during their derby clash with SD Huesca.

The disciplinary action stems from a heated moment in last Sunday’s Segunda División fixture, where Andrada struck Huesca defender Jorge Pulido in the face during stoppage time. The Argentine goalkeeper, currently on loan from CF Monterrey, initially received a red card after pushing Pulido, but the situation escalated quickly as he charged toward the defender and landed a punch, triggering a mass brawl on the pitch.

According to the federation’s disciplinary committee, Andrada received a 12-match ban for the violent conduct, in addition to a one-match suspension for the red card, taking his total punishment to 13 games. Both the player and Real Zaragoza have also been fined. The suspension effectively rules the 35-year-old out for the remainder of the season, dealing a significant blow to Zaragoza’s fight to avoid relegation.

The chaotic scenes did not end with Andrada’s dismissal. Huesca goalkeeper Dani Jimenez was also sent off and handed a four-match ban, while Zaragoza’s Dani Tasende received a two-match suspension for their involvement in the altercation. Despite the drama, Huesca held on to secure a crucial 1-0 victory.

Following the match, Andrada issued a public apology, acknowledging the severity of his actions and the negative impact on his team and supporters. Zaragoza also condemned the incident, stating that the scenes witnessed were unacceptable and had no place in professional football.
