Gautam Gambhir returns to Kolkata Knight Riders as mentor, says “I am back, I am hungry”

Former Kolkata Knight Riders’ skipper, Gautam Gambhir, renowned for steering the team to two IPL victories, is set to make a comeback to the franchise in a mentoring role. Joining forces with head coach Chandrakant Pandit, Gambhir will contribute to the team’s support staff, bringing a wealth of experience from his successful tenure as a player.

During his playing days with KKR from 2011 to 2017, Gambhir played a pivotal role in securing two IPL titles in 2012 and 2014. Under his captaincy, the team consistently reached the playoffs and even reached the final of the Champions League in 2014.

Reflecting on his return, Gambhir expressed, “I am not an emotional person, and not many things move me, but this is different. This is back to where it all started.” He continued with enthusiasm, “Today, there is a lump in my throat and fire in my heart as I think about slipping into that purple and gold jersey once again. I am not only coming back to KKR, but I am coming back to the city of joy. I am back. I am hungry. I am number 23. Ami KKR.”

Shah Rukh Khan, co-owner of the KKR franchise, welcomed Gambhir’s return, stating, “Gautam has always been part of the family, and this is our Captain coming back home in a different avatar as a mentor. He was sorely missed, and now we all look forward to Chandu Sir and Gautam instilling the never-say-die spirit and sportsmanship they stand for, in creating magic with Team KKR.”
