Manchester United could turn to a familiar face once again following the dismissal of Ruben Amorim, with Ole Gunnar Solskjaer open to returning to Old Trafford in a caretaker managerial role. Transfer expert Fabrizio Romano has reported that the Norwegian is waiting for the club’s decision and is keen to step in if asked.
Amorim was sacked earlier this week after a turbulent spell in charge, with inconsistent performances and disappointing results forcing the club’s hierarchy to act. United are now working on an interim solution while they assess long-term managerial options ahead of the summer.
According to Romano, Solskjaer is “keen on the caretaker manager job” and would be willing to help stabilise the situation during a crucial phase of the season. The former United boss previously managed the club between 2018 and 2021, guiding them to a second-place Premier League finish in the 2020–21 campaign and restoring a degree of stability following José Mourinho’s exit.
Alongside the potential return of Solskjaer, there could also be movement within the backroom staff. Romano revealed that Jonny Evans is ready to return immediately as part of the coaching setup, following reports from the BBC. The former United defender, who rejoined the club as a player in recent seasons, is understood to be open to transitioning into an assistant coaching role if the interim structure is finalised.
