The roar of engines may soon echo through the Buddh International Circuit (BIC) once again. In a major update for Indian motorsport fans, Union Sports Minister Mansukh Mandaviya has confirmed a strategic push to bring Formula 1 back to India by 2027.

During a media interaction in New Delhi on April 13, 2026, Mandaviya revealed that the government is actively resolving the bureaucratic and taxation hurdles that previously stalled the event.

Key Highlights of the F1 India Return

Target Year: A formal return is being eyed for the 2027 season, with the government aiming to finalize track preparations within the next six months.

The Adani Factor: The Adani Group recently finalized a ₹14,535 crore acquisition of Jaypee Group’s assets (via NCLT approval in March 2026). This includes the BIC, with Karan Adani expressing strong personal interest in reviving the Indian Grand Prix.

Infrastructure Revival: At least three major companies have shown interest in operating the circuit, signaling a shift toward professional sports management.

Why 2027 is the Lucky year?

The Indian GP was discontinued after 2013 due to a complex dispute where the event was classified as “entertainment” rather than “sport,” leading to heavy taxation. However, the current government’s proactive stance and the involvement of the Adani Group provide the financial and institutional muscle needed to satisfy Liberty Media’s global standards

With F1’s popularity exploding globally, a return to Greater Noida would tap into a massive, young demographic. While the FIA calendar is currently packed with 24 races, India’s status as a “fastest-growing sports market” makes it a top priority for the sport’s expansion into Asia.

The Verdict: With the tax disputes nearing resolution and a corporate giant like Adani at the helm, the dream of seeing F1 cars hit the BIC straight at 320 km/h is closer than ever to becoming a reality.
