Union Health Minister Dr. Harsh Vardhan, on Wednesday, confronted the people through a press conference. Apart from mentioning the reasons behind the shortage of Remdesivir injections, he also made it a point that strict actions will be taken against those who are creating an artificial shortage of medicines.
Dr. Vardhan said, “Shortage of Remdesivir happened because its production was reduced as Covid-19 cases were decreasing. Our drug controller and ministry held a meeting with stakeholders and asked manufacturers to strengthen the production”.
Further, he added, “Drugs Controller General of India (DGCI) has directed for strict action into any complaint of black marketing of Remdesivir. Those who are exploiting people and creating an artificial shortage of medicine, strict action should be taken against them,” as quoted by ANI.

Well, Remdesivir has been given approval by the Food and Drug Administration (FDA) for the treatment of Covid-19 in hospitalized adults and pediatric patients (age ranged between 0 to 12 years and weight should be under 40 kgs).
In addition to this, the Health Ministry has clarified that Remdesivir should be procured to those patients who are hospitalized and are low on oxygen. Also, the supply of Remdesivir is to be made to hospitals only, not chemists or patients.
Amid the escalating rates of Coronavirus cases, it is being observed that several states have been running short of Remdesivir. It has been flying off the shelves so quickly.
Because of the shortage, the center has banned the export of Remdesivir. Meanwhile, the rising cases in the country have been a matter of concern to everyone. India reported 1,84,372 new cases in the last 24 hours pushing the total number of cases to 1,38,73,825.
