New York Times reported that doctor developed severe allergic reaction in Boston, minutes after receiving the shot of Moderna COVID-19 vaccine on Thursday. This was first of its kind reported to be linked to the Moderna vaccine.
The incident involved Dr. Hossein Sadrzadeh, a geriatric oncologist at Boston Medical Center, who has a severe shellfish allergy and had an appointment to get the Moderna shot in the afternoon. In an interview, Dr Sadrzadeh said he experienced a severe reaction almost immediately after he was inoculated, feeling dizzy and with his heart racing.
After knowing about the incident, Ray Jordan, a spokesman for Moderna informed about the company’s medical safety team looking into the matter.
As the mass vaccination programme to protect people from the Coronavirus has begun worldwide, countries like the United Kingdom, UAE, U.S.A approved the use of Pfizer-BioNTech and received their first shots earlier December.
Canada too joined the list and received its Pfizer vaccine on December 14.
Saudi Arabia, the worst affected country in the Arabian Peninsula began its vaccination campaign on December 17.
Serbia and Israel kick-started their drive soon after the respective Prime Ministers received their first shots. Qatar launched a free vaccination campaign after the first batch arrived in the Gulf state on December 22.
The widespread of the virus has claimed more than 1.75 million deaths globally and has brought the world to a standstill paving a way for a global economic crisis.
