On Saturday, April 17, Prime Minister Narendra Modi talked to Swami Avdheshanand Giri to inquire about the health of the saints and also requested him to keep the religious congregation symbolic due to COVID-19 pandemic. 30 ‘sadhus’ tested positive for COVID-19 who took part in Kumbh Mela.

Prime Minister Narnendra Modi shared this information by tweeting– “Spoke to Swami Avdheshanand Giri ji on the phone today to know about the health of all the saints. All the saints are giving all kinds of support to the administration. I thanked them for this.”

Prime Minister further tweeted– “I have prayed that two royal baths have taken place and that the Kumbh be kept symbolic due to the Corona crisis. This will give a strength to the fight against this crisis.”

Quoting to the Prime Minister’s tweet, Swami Avdheshanand Giri tweeted in Hindi, saying, “We honor the call of Hon’ble Prime Minister! Protecting life is a great virtue. My request to the religious people is not to come for a bath in large numbers and observe the rules, given the circumstances under COVID!”

Swami Avdheshanand also urges people not to come in huge numbers to take bath and also to follow all the COVID-19 rules and guidelines of administration.

Maha Nirvani Akhara head Kapil Dev, who had come to attend the Kumbh in Haridwar from Chitrakoot, Madhya Pradesh, died in a Dehradun hospital on Wednesday while undergoing treatment after testing positive for COVID-19.

In the last 24 hours, India reported 2,34,692 new COVID-19 cases and reached the milestone of highest single day surge and 1,23,354 patients got discharge, while 1,341 people died of this deadly virus. Total active cases in India is now around 16.7 lakhs. Total death toll in India reached to 1,75,649.
