India witnessed a spike of 27,114 fresh cases in the last 24 hours, taking the Coronavirus tally to 8,20,916. The previous record of the highest number of cases in a single day (26,506) has been broken with this new spike. The active number of cases stands at 2,83,407 while over 5,15,386 patients have recovered to date. A total of 19,873 patients were recovered in the last 24 hours – this was the third day in a row where over 19,000 patients were recovered in a single day. The recovery rate has increased to 62.7%.

– Maharashtra is the most affected state in India in terms of both the number of cases and fatalities.
– The state has recorded 2,38,461 cases where 1,32,625 have been cured or recovered.
– 95,943 cases are still active in the state and the death toll stands at 9,893.

– Tamil Nadu has reported the second-highest number of total Coronavirus cases (1,30,261).
– The death toll has risen to 1,829 while 82,324 patients have recovered.

– The national capital Delhi has recorded 1,09,140 cases and 3,300 fatalities.
– The tally of active cases stands at 21,146 while the patient recoveries have reached 84,694.

On Friday, it was conveyed that the vaccine could be available only by early next year. Presentations were given by the Department of Science and Technology, Department of Biotechnology, Council of Scientific and Industrial Research (CSIR) and the principal scientific advisor to the Government before the Parliamentary Standing Committee on Science and Technology, Environment and Climate on the Centre’s COVID-19 preparedness.
