Coronavirus cases in India keep increasing steadily as the country’s tally crossed the 14 lakh mark. The states reported 49,931 fresh cases in the last 24 hours, taking the case count to 14,35,453. With 708 fatalities in the last 24 hours, the death toll rose to 32,771.

According to the data released by the health ministry, the number of active cases stands at 4,85,114 while the number of recoveries stands at 9,17,568. In the last 24 hours, 31,991 patients were declared cured or recovered.

The Serum Institute of India is seeking permission from the Drug Controller General of India (DCGI) to conduct human trials for the COVID-19 vaccine developed by the Oxford University in collaboration with the Swedish drugmaker AstraZeneca. The vaccine candidate has shown promising results in the early trials.

The Chief Minister of Maharashtra, Uddhav Thackeray said that he is not in favour of lifting the lockdown completely to address the economic concerns. There needs to be a balance and the reopening of the services will be done in phases to ensure the risk is minimised.

Vietnam reported its first cases in over 3 months and North Korea locked down a city after it found a person who may be infected with Coronavirus. Australia’s Victoria state reported 532 new cases and Tokyo saw more than 200 new cases for six days straight.

Across the globe, Coronavirus has infected more than 16.1 million people and taken over 6.47 lakh lives.
