India’s tally crossed the 16 lakh mark as the states reported 55,079 fresh Coronavirus cases in the last 24 hours. The case count stands at 16,38,871. With 779 patients succumbing to the virus in a single day, the death toll has risen to 35,747. India’s current fatality rate stands at 2.18% as compared to the global average of about 4%.
India currently has 5,45,318 active cases whereas 10,57,805 patients have been cured or recovered. In the last 24 hours, 37,223 patients recovered from the Coronavirus infection. The gap between active patients and recovered patients has widened to 5,12,487. The recovery rate stands at 64.54%.
According to the ICMR, over 6 lakh samples were tested on Thursday. as of 30th July, India has tested a total of 1,88,32,970 samples.
Sixteen states and UTs, including Delhi, Gujarat Tamil Nadu and Madhya Pradesh, have a COVID-19 recovery rate higher than the national average of 64.44 per cent.
On Thursday, Anthony Fauci, Director, National Institute of Allergy and Infectious Diseases (NIAID) of the US, said India’s position as the world’s largest vaccine manufacturer by volume will play a crucial role when the effective vaccine is developed globally.
