3,816 rail coaches available to use at present for COVID care: Ministry of Railways

The Ministry of Railways has said that a total of 3,816 are available for use as COVID-19 Care Coaches, in the country at present, which is being deployed as per demand by state governments.

As per the report by ANI, on Saturday, the ministry of railways stated that a total of 3,816 railway coaches were available for use as COVID-19 coaches, in the country at present, which are being deployed as per the demand by the states.

The report further states that a total of 21 COVID-care coaches have been deployed at Nandurbar District in Maharashtra, where 47 patients have been admitted. The Indian Railways have deployed fifty COVID-19 care coaches at Shakur Basti, 25 at Anand Vihar, 10 at Varanasi, 10 at Badohi and 10 at COVID-19 Care Coaches at Faizabad by the Indian Railways.

A statement released by the Indian railways states that the company has converted a total of 5,601 train coaches to COVID Care Centers by the Indian Railway. Out of these, a total of 3,816 coaches are available for use as COVID-19 Care Coaches.

As per the guidelines released by the Ministry of Health and Family Welfare (GOI), the coaches can be used for very mild cases that can be clinically assigned to the Covid Care Centers.

The Madhya Pradesh Government has requested Indian Railways to deploy 40 coaches, 20 for Bhopal and 20 for Habibganj Railway Station in West Central Railway. “These COVID-19 Care Coaches shall be operational from April 25 and will be handed over to the state governments”, the ministry added.
