SpiceJet to re-induct Boeing 737 MAX into service, aims to restore 10 aircraft by mid-April

SpiceJet is set to reintroduce its first ungrounded Boeing 737 MAX aircraft into operations on January 29, 2025, marking a pivotal step in the airline’s fleet restoration plan. The aircraft, grounded for several months, will now enable the airline to cater to high-demand international destinations such as Jeddah and Riyadh without operational restrictions.

As part of its broader fleet restoration strategy, SpiceJet has partnered with StandardAero Inc., a leading US-based engine maintenance, repair, and overhaul (MRO) provider, and CFM International, Inc., the original equipment manufacturer for the LEAP-1B engines. These agreements aim to streamline the maintenance and efficiency of the MAX fleet.

The airline plans to reintroduce ten aircraft, including four Boeing 737 MAX planes, into service by mid-April 2025, with the MAX aircraft being the first under this initiative. The reintroduction of these fuel-efficient planes is expected to significantly reduce operational costs through lower fuel consumption, reduced maintenance, and improved aircraft utilization.

Ajay Singh, Chairman and Managing Director of SpiceJet, expressed his pride in the milestone: “The re-induction of our first grounded Boeing 737 MAX aircraft is a moment of immense pride and an important milestone for SpiceJet. It underscores our unwavering commitment to restoring and enhancing our fleet’s operational capacity.”

Since October 2024, SpiceJet has bolstered its fleet with ten additional aircraft, including three previously grounded planes and seven newly leased ones. This expansion has enabled the airline to introduce over 60 new flights in the past three months, enhancing connectivity and offering passengers more travel options.

The Boeing 737 MAX aircraft, known for its fuel efficiency and advanced features, is expected to play a crucial role in optimizing SpiceJet’s operations and driving sustainable growth as the airline aims to scale new heights in the competitive aviation sector.
