ata Motors Limited has released its sales figures for April 2025, showing a total of 72,753 units sold across both domestic and international markets. This represents a decline of approximately 6% compared to 77,521 units sold in April 2024. The drop in sales is primarily due to decreases in both commercial vehicle (CV) and passenger vehicle (PV) sales.
Commercial Vehicle Sales
In the commercial vehicle segment, Tata Motors reported a total of 27,221 units sold, reflecting an 8% decrease year-over-year (YoY) from 29,538 units in April 2024. The heavy commercial vehicle (HCV) segment, which includes trucks, saw a decrease of 8%, with sales dropping to 7,270 units from 7,875 units last year. The intermediate and light commercial vehicle (ILMCV) segment, however, performed better, registering an 8% growth in sales with 4,680 units sold compared to 4,316 units in April 2024. Passenger carriers in the commercial vehicle segment saw a slight increase of 4%, with 4,683 units sold this year, up from 4,502 units in the same period last year. On the other hand, the small commercial vehicle (SCV) cargo and pickup segment saw a notable decline, with sales falling 23% to 9,131 units from 11,823 units in April 2024.
Domestic and International Commercial Vehicle Sales
For the total commercial vehicle segment, including both domestic and international markets, the decline was significant, with sales dropping by 8% to 27,221 units. In the domestic market, Tata Motors saw a decrease of 10% in its commercial vehicle sales, amounting to 25,764 units, down from 28,516 units in April 2024. However, international business sales for commercial vehicles showed a positive growth of 43%, with 1,457 units sold compared to 1,022 units last year.
Passenger Vehicle Sales
Turning to passenger vehicles, Tata Motors experienced a decline in both domestic and international markets. The total passenger vehicle sales, including electric vehicles (EVs), amounted to 45,532 units, which is a 5% decrease from 47,983 units in April 2024. Domestic sales in the passenger vehicle segment dropped by 6%, from 47,883 units in April 2024 to 45,199 units this year. In contrast, international sales of passenger vehicles saw a substantial increase of 233%, with 333 units sold compared to just 100 units in April 2024. Despite this growth in international markets, the overall passenger vehicle segment still experienced a drop due to the decline in domestic sales.
Electric Vehicle Sales
Electric vehicle sales, which have been a key focus for Tata Motors, also faced a downturn. The total number of EVs sold, including both domestic and international business, fell by 16% to 5,318 units from 6,364 units in April 2024. This decline reflects the broader challenges faced by the EV market, including supply chain issues and fluctuating consumer demand.
