Mercedes likely to axe “Coupe” GLC and GLE SUV models

Mercedes-Benz is considering removing the GLC coupe and the larger GLE coupe from its lineup as part of its model consolidation strategy, according to company officials. The two combustion-engined coupé-SUVs are claimed to be at the “top of the list” of existing models that will be taken out as Mercedes continues its transition to a fully electric line-up.

The company has previously discontinued the CLS and X-Class pickup, as well as the combustion-engined C-Class, E-Class and S-Class coupes, from its lineup in recent years. By the end of 2024, the A-Class hatchback and B-Class MPV were also scheduled to be taken out of the original plans. They have been given a reprieve until 2026, after which they are anticipated to permanently remove the Mercedes lineup.

As per Autocar India, a source at Mercedes’ headquarters in Stuttgart, Germany,  acknowledged a previous report by the Handelsblatt that an announcement on more model consolidation is planned. He did not, however, comment on plans to discontinue the GLC and GLE coupes, instead stating, “Every current model is under review. It is a continuous process.”
