Mercedes-AMG GT63 S E Performance Coupe is the company’s quickest-ever car

With the arrival of the all-new AMG GT63 S E Performance Coupe, a plug-in hybrid variant of the AMG four-seater super coupe, Mercedes-Benz has been grabbing headlines.

While this adds to Affalterbach’s lineup of powerful PHEVs, it will be Mercedes-AMG’s sixth PHEV and is expected to produce excellent power and performance. Aside from claiming to be the fastest Mercedes-Benz car ever, with a 0-100 kmph acceleration time of just 2.9 seconds, the 803 bhp power and 1,420 Nm torque generating coupe promise a pure electric range of 14 kilometers, which is undoubtedly an advantage for customers looking for more range from their vehicle.

The range of an electric or electrified vehicle is nearly everything. Many current hybrid vehicles, including plug-in hybrids, have relatively limited pure electric driving range. The Mercedes-AMG GT63 S E Performance Coupe competes in the same league.

The same engine that powers the top-spec SL roadster also powers the super coupe. An electric motor is installed at the back of the 4.0-litre twin-turbocharged V8 high-performance internal combustion engine. With 560 individual cells, the 400-volt hybrid system is designed to provide fast rates of both charging and discharging. There is a very powerful 6.1 kWh battery pack that has a peak power discharge of up to 201 bhp.
