Hyundai has recently unveiled the first official images of the interior of its highly anticipated micro SUV, the Exter. Scheduled for launch on July 10, the Exter has generated considerable buzz in the market. While partial leaks of the interior had surfaced earlier, these newly released pictures provide a comprehensive view of the micro-SUV’s cabin.
Drawing inspiration from its sibling models, the Grand i10 Nios and Aura, the Exter showcases a similar design for its steering wheel and dashboard. However, it incorporates several distinctive elements that set it apart. Notably, the interior adopts an all-black color scheme, deviating from the grey/black or bronze/black options seen in the Nios and Aura, respectively. The Exter also boasts a fully digital instrument cluster featuring a 4.2-inch multi-information display (MID), reminiscent of higher-end Hyundai vehicles like the i20 and Verna.
Higher variants of the Exter will be equipped with an 8.0-inch touchscreen infotainment system, akin to its sibling models. The patterned-effect on the dashboard and surrounding the gear lever has been carried over from Hyundai’s design language. Delicate body-colored accents adorn the air conditioning vents, as well as the semi-leatherette seat upholstery. In terms of seating, the Exter provides three-point seat belts for all three rear passengers and an air conditioning vent for the second row, although it does not feature a rear center armrest.
Hyundai has also confirmed that the Exter will offer connected car technology, supporting voice-activated commands in multiple languages and providing over-the-air (OTA) updates for the infotainment system and maps. Higher trim levels will offer additional features such as automatic climate control, Apple CarPlay, Android Auto, built-in navigation, and a sunroof.
Under the hood, the Exter will be powered by Hyundai’s reliable 1.2-liter four-cylinder petrol engine, generating 83 horsepower. This engine, already featured in models like the Venue, Nios, and Aura, will be complemented by a factory-fitted CNG kit. The petrol engine will be available with a choice of a 5-speed manual or an AMT automatic transmission, while the CNG variant will only offer a manual gearbox.
Bookings for the Hyundai Exter are currently open, with deliveries expected to commence by mid-July. Customers can reserve their Exter by paying a booking amount of Rs 11,000. Once launched, the Exter will enter the highly competitive micro SUV segment, going head-to-head with rivals such as the Tata Punch, Citroen C3, and Maruti Ignis.
