The Yogi Adiyanath government in Uttar Pradesh has presented a Rs 5,50,270 budget today with the agricultural sector receiving a bigger allotment.
With a view to make Uttar Pradesh an agriculturally ‘atmanirbhar’ state, the Yogi Government plans to introduce reforms with the aim to double the farmers’ income by 2022. Under the Atma Nirbhar Krishak Samanvit Vikas Yojana, the government has provided an allocation of Rs 100 crore and under the Mukhyamantri Krishak Durghatna Kalyan Yojana a portfolio of Rs 600 crore has been presented.
Out of this budget, Rs 700 crore and Rs 400 will be used to provide free water facility and to increase the concession on farmers’ loan rates.
For the financial year 2021-22, the government expects to achieve a growth in food grain and oil seed production. The target for the production of Kharif crops has been set at 223 lakh MT, and for the Rabi crops it is expected to be 417 lakh MT. Oil seed production target has been set at 12 lakh MT.
With a goal to develop its Cane and Sugar Industry, Pipraich Sugar Mill will be redesigned. The government plans to increase the distillation capacity of 120 kilolitres/day. The Pipraich Sugar Mill will also be equipped to produce ethyl alcohol. This facility will be the first one in North India which will be able to directly convert sugarcane juice to ethanol.
