Following the unrest observed Pan-India on the passing of the Agricultural bill in the Parliament, Agricultural Minister Narendra Singh Tomar commented that the Minimum Support Price policy of the government for the Kharif and Rabi crops will continue in lieu of this pandemic even after not being stated in the provisions of the bill. He stated that the procurement of the same will begin, as soon as the crops are harvested.
” MSP has always been Govt. of India’s administrative decision and remains so”, He added.
The Agricultural bill passed in the Parliament removed cereals, pulses, oilseeds, edible oils, onion and potatoes from the list of essential commodities. Severe agitation and protests were observed Pan-India. This decision amongst the pandemic has already left people worried about the possibility in the future rise of these commodities. Amidst this, the statement from Agricultural Minister comes as an air of relief.
He also took a dig at the former ruling party Congress stating “Has MSP ever been part of the law? Congress ruled for 50 years, why didn’t they incorporate it in law? They’re making an issue as they don’t have anything to criticise.”
