Congress workers in Delhi have started a protest march against the Centre’s agriculture Bills on Monday. The Rajya Sabha had passed the Farmers’ & Produce Trade & Commerce (Promotion & Facilitation) Bill, 2020 and Farmers (Empowerment & Protection) Agreement on Price Assurance and Farm Services Bill, 2020 yesterday amid huge parliament uproar.
“The farmers grow gold from the land, but the arrogance of the Modi government is making them shed tears of blood,” Congress leader Rahul Gandhi had tweeted yesterday after the upper house passed 2 of the 3 controversial farm bills. He also added that democracy has been shamed the way the bills were passed and called the bills “anti-agriculture black laws”.
Many opposition MPs including TMC MP Derek O’Brien had called yesterday’s parliamentary proceedings ‘death of democracy’ as they weren’t given a vote on the matter. The bills have sparked widespread protests in the country. Farmers in Punjab, Haryana, Andhra Pradesh have been protesting for weeks demanding a rollback of the bills.
