Akali Dal delegation to meet with President Ram Nath Kovind to stop Agriculture Bills from becoming National Laws

A delegation of Shiromani Akali Dal led by it’s chief S Sukhbir Singh Badal will meet President Ram Nath Kovind today at 4.30 pm, to discuss the passage of Centre’s Agriculture Bills in Rajya Sabha yesterday.

Badal has urged President to not sign on two of the three controversial bills and stand with farmers, labourers and dalits. Akali Dal, one of BJP’s oldest allys had initially supported the bills but changed their stance after the farmer protests. Badal also requested the President to appeal to the government on behalf of farmers and asked him to sent the bills back to parliament.

“Don’t let the ‘annadata’ (God of food) starve or sleep on the roads. Please intervene on their behalf, otherwise they will never forgive us,” Mr Badal said in his appeal. Akali MP Naresh Gujral said in Parliament today that ‘dont think farmers of Punjab are weak’. The agriculture bills have sparked widespread farmer protest across the country.
