Amazon Pay executive Manesh Mahatme is appointed as as Head of Payments in India by Facebook-owned messaging platform WhatsApp. Mahatme was Director and Board member of Amazon Pay India and led product, engineering, and growth teams. He spent seven years in Amazon.
Mahatme will pay attention on increasing the payments experience for users. He’ll also try to scale the service offering in the county, the told in a statement on June 28.
Before joining Watsapp, he was also contributory in enhancing and scaling the payment experience and platform for Amazon India’s marketplace business. He has 17 years of experience in Citibank, Airtel Money and Amazon in the digital financial services and payments. Manesh completed his graduation from BITS, Pilani (Electronics Engineering) and from SP Jain, Mumbai (Management).
Abhijit Bose, Head of WhatsApp in India, said in a statement that he has been one of “key innovators” in the growth of digital payments in India over the last ten years. He will be instrumental in maximizing impact and scale of payments on WhatsApp.
He added, “WhatsApp has immense potential to digitally empower people across segments and help accelerate the Government of India’s efforts to drive financial inclusion through UPI and digital payments.”
