Orange alert issued as heavy rains to begin on Sunday in Mumbai

Warning of heavy to very heavy showers in Mumbai. The city has been placed under the orange category by the Indian Meteorological Department.

In the 48 hours ending 8:30 a.m. on Sunday, the city received just 45.6 mm of rain despite heavy rains in Mumbai starting Saturday was predicted by the weather department and the Indian Meteorological Department mentioned that with a peak by Tuesday and continuing intermittently for the rest of the week, heavy rains are expected to arrive sometime on Sunday, according to a report released by The Hindustan Times.

Over the north Konkan coast due to the formation of an east-west shear zone, the deal is said to be due. Leading to lesser than anticipated rainfall over the city, lying just off the coast of Mumbai from penetrating inland, it had inhibited rainbands as mentioned by two independent meteorologists.

Under the influence of a low-pressure area that is forming in the Bay of Bengal along with an upper air cyclonic circulation in the Arabian Sea rains were likely to arrive soon as per the officials and experts. Warning of heavy to very heavy showers Mumbai has been placed under the orange category by the Indian Meteorological Department as it may receive as much as 400 mm of rain over the next 4 to 5 days.

Being about 37% over the seasonal normal of 801 mm, since 1st June the city has so far witnessed 1106 mm of rain however the city has recorded largely deficit rains since 1st July at a departure of more than – 80%.
