During the Coronavirus Pandemic, the Lambda variant of the virus has been identified in Canada.
Although it is too early to figure out how widespread it is or what impact could it have, cases of the latest coronavirus variant are found as said by Canada’s chief public health officer, according to a report released by The Hindu.
11 cases of the Lambda variant which was first identified in Peru the previous year, have now been reported to Health Canada to date, as per Dr. Theresa Tam. While 27 cases have already been confirmed by the National Institute of Public Health of Quebec on Thursday.
She said that to see how it spreads and responds to the vaccines, the public health agency of Canada is monitoring the Lambda variant, and information is been gathered up to figure out who has the Lambda variant right now, although there are very few cases currently.
Though it is concluded that it’s not enough to cause a significant loss of protection against infection, with regards to antibodies produced by the mRNA vaccines from Pfizer-Biotech along with Moderna, the lambda variant may be a bit resistant, according to early studies including one from the New York University as published on 2nd July.
