The political battle over government formation in Tamil Nadu took another dramatic turn on Friday after the Viduthalai Chiruthaigal Katchi (VCK) reportedly submitted its formal letter of support to Tamilaga Vettri Kazhagam (TVK), pushing actor-politician Vijay to the crucial majority mark of 118 MLAs.

According to political sources, the latest support has significantly strengthened Vijay’s claim to form the next government in the state after days of uncertainty surrounding the numbers required to secure a majority in the 234-member Tamil Nadu Assembly.

The development came shortly after reports emerged that the Indian National Congress had shifted its five Tamil Nadu MLAs to Hyderabad amid intense political negotiations and concerns over possible attempts to influence legislators during the ongoing government formation process.

Sources indicated that the support tally for TVK now stands at 118 MLAs after receiving backing from allied parties and smaller regional groups. The number is considered the minimum required to stake claim to form the government.

Political activity intensified across Chennai as TVK leaders continued discussions with alliance partners and prepared documents related to government formation. Supporters of Vijay gathered outside key political locations in the city, celebrating the reported breakthrough in numbers.

The Governor’s Office had earlier indicated that any invitation to form the government would depend on documentary proof of majority support from alliance partners and legislators.

The latest developments are expected to further accelerate the political process, with speculation growing over a possible meeting between Vijay and the Governor to formally present letters of support.

The Tamil Nadu election has produced one of the state’s most closely watched political transitions in recent years, with TVK emerging as the single largest party despite being relatively new to electoral politics.

Analysts say the support from smaller regional parties has become critical in shaping the final outcome of government formation in the state.

There was no immediate official statement from Raj Bhavan regarding whether Vijay would now be invited to stake claim to form the government.
