Actor-turned-politician Vijay is reportedly on the verge of becoming the next Chief Minister of Tamil Nadu after his party, Tamilaga Vettri Kazhagam (TVK), allegedly secured enough support to cross the majority mark in the state assembly.

According to political sources, TVK has received backing from smaller parties including the Viduthalai Chiruthaigal Katchi (VCK), the Communist Party of India (CPI), and the Communist Party of India (Marxist). Congress legislators are also said to be supporting the formation effort, taking the total number of supporting MLAs to the crucial majority figure of 118.

Sources claimed that TVK currently holds 108 seats, while VCK has four legislators, CPI and CPI(M) have two each, and Congress has five MLAs extending support to the alliance.

The development comes after Governor R. N. Ravi had reportedly asked Vijay to demonstrate the support of at least 118 MLAs before staking claim to form the government. Vijay is now expected to seek another meeting with the governor after earlier attempts reportedly ended without formal approval to proceed.

Political tensions escalated further after reports surfaced suggesting possible discussions between rival Dravidian parties DMK and AIADMK regarding alternative government formation arrangements. In response, TVK leaders reportedly warned that all party MLAs would resign if the two major regional rivals attempted to jointly form a government.

Meanwhile, TVK supporters gathered outside Raj Bhavan in Chennai and raised slogans in support of Vijay’s leadership. Police detained several protesters during demonstrations near the governor’s residence as security was tightened in the area.

The political developments have triggered intense speculation across Tamil Nadu, with an official announcement regarding government formation expected later in the day if the governor accepts TVK’s claim of majority support.
