Vijay is officially set to become the next Chief Minister of Tamil Nadu after staking claim to form the government with the support of 118 MLAs, meeting the majority mark in the 234-member Assembly.

The Tamilaga Vettri Kazhagam (TVK) chief met Governor R. N. Ravi on Friday and formally submitted letters of support from allied legislators. Sources confirmed that the Governor accepted the claim and invited Vijay to form the government.

The swearing-in ceremony has been officially scheduled for 11 am on Saturday at Jawaharlal Nehru Stadium in Chennai. Preparations for the event were underway through Friday evening, with heavy security arrangements and stage construction being carried out at the venue.

Vijay’s rise marks one of the most dramatic political transitions in recent Tamil Nadu history, with the actor entering office after TVK emerged as the single largest party in the Assembly election. The party had initially fallen short of the majority mark, triggering intense political negotiations over the past several days.

According to political sources, TVK secured outside and alliance support from parties including Congress, CPI, CPI(M) and VCK, helping the coalition cross the required majority figure of 118 MLAs.

The development ended days of uncertainty surrounding government formation in the state. Earlier, the Governor had reportedly asked Vijay to demonstrate majority support before being invited to form the government.

Supporters gathered outside Raj Bhavan and several parts of Chennai after confirmation of the swearing-in schedule, celebrating the announcement with party flags, drums and slogans.

The oath-taking ceremony is expected to witness the presence of senior political leaders, film personalities and alliance representatives. Security deployment around central Chennai and the stadium area has also been increased ahead of the high-profile event.

Vijay, one of Tamil cinema’s biggest stars, formally launched TVK as a political force before the Assembly election campaign and positioned the party as an alternative to the state’s traditional Dravidian political structure.

His transition from actor to chief minister is expected to significantly reshape Tamil Nadu’s political landscape in the coming years.
