
Former Kerala Pradesh Congress Committee (KPCC) General Secretary Satheeshan Pacheni died after suffering brain haemorrhage at a private hospital at Chala near here on Thursday. He was 54.
The former District Congress Committee (DCC) president and former KSU president was undergoing treatment since November 19 due to health issues.
He is survived by wife KV Reena and two children Jawahar and Sania. He belongs to CPI(M) stronghold, Pacheni, near Taliparamba and joined Congress in his school days.
He served as the KSU State president in 1999 and Kannur DCC president during 2016 and 2021, Director of Consumer Fed during Oommen Chandy led UDF government.
He also served as the KPCC General secretary during 2001 to 2012 and contested for Congress led United Democratic Front (UDF), but he lost in a slight margin against Left Democratic Front (LDF) candidates from Taliparamba assembly constituency (1996) against M V Govindan of CPI(M), Malampuzha assembly constituency (2001 and 2006) against former Chief Minister V S Achuthanandhan of CPI(M), Palakkad Lok sabha constituency(2009) against M B Rajesh of CPI(M), Kannur assembly constituency (2016 and 2021) against Ramachandran Kadannappally of Congress(S).
The body will be kept at Taliparamba Congress block committee office from 1600 hrs and taken to his brother’s house at Ammanapara Thursday and will be brought to Kannur DCC Friday to pay tributes by the people from all walks of life.
The funeral function will be held Friday at Payyambalam public crematorium in the afternoon. Congress called a shut down from 0700 to 1200 hrs at Kannur corporation limits as a respect to the departed leader, said DCC president Martin George.
Chief Minister Pinarayi Vijayan, Opposition leader V D Satheeshan, KPCC president K Surendran and LDF State convenor E P Jayarajan gave the condolence message to the departed leader.
