Verdict will be announced on Friday, no action against MLAs, says Rajasthan High Court on Sachin Pilot case

The Rajasthan High Court today ruled that it will announce the verdict on the writ petition, filed by Sachin Pilot and his allies against their disqualification from the party, on Friday, March 24.

The Rajasthan High Court, on Tuesday, announced that the verdict on the writ petition, filed by Sachin Pilot and his allies, would be delivered on Friday, March 24. This verdict, to be delivered by the end of this week, would determine the fate of the sacked Deputy Chief Minister, Sachin Pilot, and 18 other MLAs of Congress who are his allies.

Last week, Sachin Pilot and his allies failed to attend the meeting held at the Fairmont Hotel, Jaipur on both Monday and Tuesday. A serious caveat had already been issued by the party leaders prior to the meeting. After forwarding this issue to speaker CP Joshi, Pilot and these MLAs were disqualified from the party. Sachin Pilot was also immediately removed from the office of the Deputy Chief Minister of Rajasthan.

The members of the Congress party, in their complaint to the speaker, had asserted that an action should be taken against Pilot and the ally MLAs under the 10th Schedule of the Constitution. At the same time, Pilot defended his stance by saying that such a provision applies only when the party is in session, as reported by Hindustan Times.

The situation in Rajasthan has ever since been unstable. There have been series of accusations between the BJP and the Congress and even within the state’s ruling party itself. Sachin Pilot was also accused of accepting bribe from the opposition party to leave the Congress. Pilot called these “concocted allegations” as affirmed that he will always be credible and firm on his stance.

While the court proceedings were in motion, a cabinet meeting of the Congress Legislative Party (CLP) is underway. This meeting is being hosted by the Chief Minister Ashok Gehlot who has been firmly critical of Pilot. The party has been joined by Gehlot’s allies and would be discussing the future strategy of the party considering the current turmoil. This is the third session of the meeting since last two weeks in Jaipur.
