Mumbai experiences coldest day since December 2015 as temperature dips to 13.7°C

Mumbai recorded its coldest day in nearly nine years on Monday, with the temperature plunging to 13.7 degrees Celsius, according to the India Meteorological Department (IMD). This marks the lowest temperature in the city since December 24, 2015, when the mercury had dropped to 11.4°C.

The recent 13.7°C reading also surpassed this season’s earlier low of 16.5°C, recorded just a few days ago. Alongside the chilly morning, the daytime temperature is expected to hover around 32°C, as per IMD officials.

The significant temperature drop follows days of above-average heat. On Monday, the Santacruz weather station recorded a minimum of 13.7°C, which is 5.6°C below the seasonal average for December. In comparison, the Colaba coastal observatory registered a slightly warmer 19.2°C. The dip is particularly striking given that temperatures were around 25°C until Friday morning, signaling a sudden drop of over 11°C in just a few days.

The cool weather has brought much-needed relief to residents, who had been experiencing unusually warm conditions for this time of year.
