The Government of Maharashtra has announced three days of state mourning following the death of Ajit Pawar, the Honourable Deputy Chief Minister of Maharashtra, on Wednesday, January 28, 2026.

According to an official communication issued by the General Administration Department, Mantralaya, Mumbai, the state mourning will be observed from January 28 to January 30, 2026 (both days inclusive) as a mark of respect to the departed leader.

During the mourning period, the national flag will be flown at half-mast across Maharashtra on all buildings where it is regularly hoisted. The government has also directed that no official entertainment programmes will be held during these three days.

In addition, the Maharashtra government has declared the closure of all state government offices on Wednesday, January 28, 2026, in view of the sad demise of the Deputy Chief Minister.

The official wireless message, circulated to senior state officials, district collectors, police commissioners, and superintendents of police across Maharashtra, instructed authorities to ensure strict compliance with the mourning protocols and administrative directions issued by the state.

The notification was signed by H. P. Baviskar, Under Secretary, Government of Maharashtra, and forwarded for immediate transmission through the state police wireless network.
