Today, West Bengal CM Mamata Banerjee took out a rally in Kolkata against the Hathras Gangrape Case.
While addressing the rally she said, “I feel like going to Hathras and meeting the victim’s family members; what has happened is condemnable.”
The TMC Trinamool Congress since the beginning of the issue has targetted the Bharatiya Janata Party and demanded the resignation of Uttar Pradesh Chief Minister Yogi Adityanath. The West Bengal ruling party has already commenced its campaign to raise the issue.
“Goddess Sita went through ‘Agni Pariksha’ in the Ramayana after being kidnapped by Ravana, and the Dalit woman who died after being allegedly gang-raped and brutalised in Hathras, her pyre was lit in the middle of night by the police,” Mamata said, condemning the injustice.
It is Mamata Benerjee’s first rally since COVID-19 pandemic began. “I will stand by my Dalit brothers & sisters, for me my caste is humanity,” she said.
On Friday, four MPs including Derek O’Brien and Kakoli Ghosh Dastidar engaged in a scuffle with policemen about a kilometre away from the Hathras victim’s village. They were denied entry in Hathras and reportedly manhandled by the UP Police. TMC’s media cell in Bengal posted recorded video about the incident on social media videos.
The march began at the Birla Planetarium and ended at the Gandhi statue at Mayo Road, about 2 km away.
