Hathras gang-rape victim’s family is against CBI probe in the matter, and want a judicial probe in the case, stated the statement of the victim’s family which was recorded by a Special Investigation Team (SIT) led by senior Indian Police Service (IPS) officer Bhagwan Swaroop on Sunday.

This statement by the family, as recorded by the SIT comes a day after Uttar Pradesh Chief Minister Yogi Adityanath recommended a probe by the Central Investigation Bureau (CBI) in the alleged gang-rape and murder of a 19-year-old woman in the state’s Hathras district.

According to the statement, the victim’s family is not in favour of the CBI investigation and wants a judicial probe to be conducted in the case and the same has sparked outrage and protests in the country.

The SIT team present in the village Boolgarhi of Hathras is interacting with the people concerned and has stated, “Anybody who wants to give a statement is welcome.” The team had earlier interacted with the villagers on Thursday and had conducted a visit to the crime spot.

The woman was raped by four “upper caste” men on September 14 post after which she was admitted to the Jawaharlal Nehru Medical College of Aligarh Muslim University. Later she was left injured and was in a deteriorative state of health. She was later shifted to Safdarjung Hospital in New Delhi where she breathed her last air on Tuesday.
