
On Tuesday morning, Delhi recorded the season’s heaviest rainfall with 100 mm rain in just three hours. The heavy rainfall caused massive waterlogging in key stretches that include underpasses and below flyovers. Furthermore, the waterlogging has resulted in traffic snarls in the morning rush hours.
The Indian Meteorological Department (IMD) stated that between 5:30 am and 8:30 am, the Safdarjung observatory, which is the official maker for Delhi Weather, recorded 100 mm rainfall.
On the other hand, Palam Weather station received around 60.6 mm rainfall between 5:30 am and 8:30 am.
The Delhi traffic police informed that major stretches were overflowed with the early morning showers and thereby the traffic had to be diverted. The Mehrauli-Badarpur Road, Pul Prehladpur, Dhaula Kuan near India Gate, Vikas Marg, Qutub Minar metro station from Tamil Sangam Marg to RK Puram, Hyatt Regency – RK Puram, Okhla Mandi, Zakhira, and Lakshmi Nagar among others.
A senior official stated that the traffic coming from Badarpur towards Mehrauli had to be diverted to Mathura road as a result of the waterlogging at the Pul Prehladpur underpass.
As per reports, multiple vehicles including state-run buses broke down and further got struck which also led to congested traffic movement in some areas of the national capital.
