Delhi CM Arvind Kejriwal to surrender in money laundering case

Delhi Chief Minister Arvind Kejriwal announced on Friday that he will surrender to the police at Tihar Jail on June 2 in connection with a money laundering case linked to the now-scrapped liquor policy. Kejriwal, who has been on interim bail since May 10, revealed that doctors have suggested he might have signs of a serious illness.

In a press conference, Kejriwal expressed uncertainty about the duration of his imprisonment but affirmed his determination to fight against what he described as a dictatorship. He criticized the BJP, accusing them of attempting to break and silence him without success.

“When I was in jail, they tortured me in many ways and stopped my medicines. I don’t know why they did this,” Kejriwal said. He noted his significant weight loss since his incarceration and mentioned that doctors are concerned about his health, necessitating further tests.

Kejriwal vowed not to bow down to harassment and promised to continue working for the people of Delhi, ensuring that essential services like free electricity, mohalla clinics, and hospitals would not be affected.

He also appealed to the public to pray for his mother, who is unwell, and expressed concern for his elderly parents’ well-being while he is in jail.

Kejriwal’s announcement comes after the Supreme Court granted him interim bail on May 10, with a directive to surrender by June 2, just before the counting of votes for the Lok Sabha polls.

The AAP chief was arrested on March 21 by the Enforcement Directorate after being questioned at his residence in Delhi’s Civil Lines area.
