Delhi police registers FIR against unspecified creators of ‘Sulli deals’

The senior Delhi Police official further affirmed that the investigation has commenced and that the notices have been sent to GitHub to put forward relevant details related to this issue.

The Delhi police have registered an FIR against unspecified people for establishing an app called ‘Sulli Deals’ on the popular hosting platform Github. As per the ‘India Today’ report, the app creators would collect photos of Muslim Women illegally from their social media accounts and later use them inappropriately on the app.

The special cell of the Delhi Police has registered the FIR. A senior Delhi Police official informed India Today TV, “Acting on a complaint received on National Cybercrime Reporting Portal regarding Sulli Deals Mobile Application, an FIR under section 354-A of the Indian Penal Code has been registered by the Cybercrime unit.” The senior Delhi Police official further affirmed that the investigation has commenced and that the notices have been sent to GitHub to put forward relevant details related to this issue.

The action follows a day after the Delhi Commission for Women (DCW) issued a notice to the Delhi Police and asked for a detailed report regarding this matter. As far as the reports are concerned, the women panel is looking for a reply from the Delhi Police by July 12.

As per a ‘Zee News’ report, on 4 July photos of several Muslim women and girls have been uploaded by an unknown group on an app using Github by the name of ‘Sulli Deals’. Many of these women were almost forced to leave their social media platforms as their images got circulated.
