The Birhanmumbai Municipal Corporation has just announced a holiday for all schools and colleges in Mumbai. The Indian Meteorological Department issued a red alert due to heavy rainfall, which led to the decision. The department has instructed every teacher to inform concerned representatives and take the necessary steps to coordinate at the school level before leaving the building.
Furthermore, schools have been closed in some Maharashtra districts, including Raigarh, Pune, Palghar, Thane and Pimpri.
Bad weather has caused disruptions to the normal life. The routes for all buses and trains have been diverted. Additionally, due to low visibility, flight operations at the Chhatrapati Shivaji Maharaj International Airport were halted today at 10.36 am. Services were resumed at 10.55 am after a brief stop when visibility improved to 1000 meters and the Runway Visuals Range to 1200 meters.
India Meteorological Department (IMD) has also issued a red alert until 8:30 a.m. tomorrow. The BMC asked everyone to cooperate and avoid leaving their homes unless necessary.
