Aizawl, Dec 24 : Mizoram Excise and Narcotics department officials seized 1 lakh tablets of Methamphetamine at Khatla neighbourhood in Aizawl during the last 24 hours, spokesperson Peter Zohmingthanga said here on Sunday.
Zohmingthanga said that Litan Nama (28) s/o Narayan Nama, Boxanagar, Sepahijala Dist, Tripura and Jakir Hussain (23) s/o Humayun Kabir, Veluarchar, Sepahijala Dist, Tripura were arrested and the vehicle they used for transportation of the contraband – Mahindra Scorpio, Registration number TR04-E-0772 was also seized.
The Excise and Narcotics department officials first seized 20,000 tablets of Methamphetamine at Khatla locality in Saturday afternoon from the two accused persons. Thorough checking of the seized vehicle resulted in the discovery of additional 80,000 tablets.
The seized Methamphetamine is calculated to be worth Rs. 1,27,92,000, Zohmingthanga said, adding that the 2 accused persons were booked under relevant sections of the Narcotic Drugs and Psychotropic Substances Act, 1985.
They were produced before the Special Court (ND&PS Act) in Aizawl which remanded them to judicial custody for 14 days and sent them to Central Jail in Aizawl.
