The new guidelines will be effective from January 11.

The 7-day quarantine upon arrival in the country has been made mandatory for all international passengers, a health ministry notification announced on Friday. The decision came after the abrupt spike in cases of COVID-19 after the commencement of the new variant omicron.

The boarding passengers from specified countries at risk will have to submit samples for Covid testing on arrival. Unless the test results are in, the flyers would not be allowed to step out of the airport. Laying out its strategy to fight the COVID-19 spread as the highly contagious Omicron variant was mostly detected in air travellers from the foreign count.

“The global trajectory of the Covid-19 pandemic continues to decline with certain regional variations”, the Centre, in its revised travel guideline issued, said.

The new guidelines will be effective from January 11. As more countries get added to the ‘at-risk’ list. Travellers should upload a negative COVID-19 RT-PCR report. The test should have been conducted within 72 hrs before undertaking the journey. There is an extensive list of guidelines for before boarding as well as while travelling. Covid cases in India are expected to peak in the next one week, with states reporting double cases each day.
