Indian benchmark indices traded higher in the morning session on Thursday, March 5, with gains led by metal, energy, and PSU stocks. As of 10:40 AM IST, the Nifty 50 was trading at 24,613.20, up 132.70 points or 0.54%, while the BSE Sensex stood at 79,461.22, gaining 345.03 points or 0.44%.
Among sectoral indices, Nifty Bank traded at 58,942.55, up 187.30 points or 0.32%, while Nifty Midcap Select rose 116.10 points or 0.89% to 13,150.45.
Metal and energy stocks featured prominently among the top gainers on the Nifty 50 during the session.
Hindalco Industries emerged as the top gainer, trading at ₹980.50, up 6.4%.
Coal India followed with gains of 3.7%, trading at ₹451.20.
Shares of Oil and Natural Gas Corporation also moved higher, rising 3.4% to ₹286.40.
NTPC advanced 3.0% to ₹376.70 in morning trade.
Tata Steel gained 2.8%, trading at ₹202.20.
Among other notable gainers, Reliance Industries rose 2.5% to ₹1,379.00, while JSW Steel climbed 2.4% to ₹1,241.50.
Financial stock Shriram Finance traded 2.3% higher at ₹1,033.50.
In the utilities and defence space, Power Grid Corporation of India gained 2.2% to ₹298.50, while Bharat Electronics also rose 2.2% to ₹456.70.
The broader market remained positive during the morning session, with several heavyweights and metal stocks supporting the gains in the benchmark indices.
