Indian benchmark indices ended in the red on April 17, with the Nifty 50 closing at 24,353.55, down 156.80 points or 0.65%. The BSE Sensex declined 504.86 points or 0.65% to settle at 78,493.54, while the Bank Nifty fell 0.85% to 56,565.70. The Nifty Midcap 100 also dropped 1.13% to 13,838.85, reflecting broader market weakness.

Among the top losers in the Nifty 50 pack, Wipro led the decline, closing at ₹204.3, down 2.8%. HDFC Life Insurance slipped 2.4% to ₹616.3, while Sun Pharmaceutical Industries ended 1.0% lower at ₹1,675.5.

Auto major Bajaj Auto declined 0.8% to ₹9,750.0. Mahindra & Mahindra fell 0.6% to ₹3,202.0, and IT stock HCL Technologies closed 0.5% lower at ₹1,443.0.

Engineering giant Larsen & Toubro dropped 0.4% to ₹4,105.0. SBI Life Insurance edged down 0.3% to ₹1,968.1, while Eternal slipped 0.2% to ₹252.2.

Metal stock Hindalco Industries saw a marginal decline of 0.1%, ending at ₹1,039.1.
