Indian equity benchmarks closed higher on April 17, with buying seen across FMCG, healthcare, metals, and financial stocks. The Nifty 50 ended at 24,353.55, up 156.80 points or 0.65%, while the Sensex gained 504.86 points or 0.65% to settle at 78,493.54. Bank Nifty outperformed with a 0.85% rise, and Midcap Nifty advanced 1.13%.
Among the top gainers in the Nifty 50, Hindustan Unilever led the rally, closing at ₹2,240.0, up 4.7%. Nestle India and JSW Steel followed, each gaining 2.2% to close at ₹1,285.1 and ₹1,241.6, respectively.
Healthcare stocks remained firm, with Apollo Hospitals Enterprise rising 2.1% to ₹7,710.0, while Max Healthcare Institute added 1.8% to close at ₹1,008.0.
In the power and energy space, Power Grid Corporation of India advanced 1.9% to ₹318.2. Reliance Industries also ended higher, up 1.6% at ₹1,364.9, while Jio Financial Services gained 1.5% to ₹244.8.
Among other notable movers, Adani Ports & Special Economic Zone rose 1.5% to ₹1,572.4, and Tech Mahindra closed at ₹1,512.3, up 1.4%.
