Rajinikanth reveals he wanted late actor Sridevi as Kundavai in Ponniyin Selvan

Rajinikanth affirms his youth imagination about the late actor Sridevi whom he plotted as Kundavai, which is now being played by actor Trisha Krishna in the film.

The most upcoming first part of the franchise ‘Ponniyin Selvan’ or PS1 has officially launched its trailer at a grand show yesterday at Nehru Indoor Stadium, Chennai. Several stars were roped to the launch show of its audio and trailer including Rajanikanth, Kamal Haasan, Anil Kapoor, Rana Daggubatti, Jayant Kaikini And Prithviraj Sukumaran.

Rajinikanth as one of the chief guests when urged to give a speech the actor unveils some striking untold facts over the movie. He uttered how the film had been a long time fantasy for every maker, how many of them hustled to make the film screened over the years but now this has truly performed by Mani Ratnam and that’s quite an overwhelming news for him.

He even revealed his emotional attachment with this movie that how he used to wonder over the character in his youth days.

He said “I used to think that I should play Vallavarayan. Kamal should play Arulmozhi Varman, and Vijayakanth should play Aditya Karikalan. Rekha should play Nandini. Sathyaraj for Periya Pazhuvettaraiyar. I was dreaming all of this back then.”

There he also affirms his imagination about the late actor Sridevi whom he plotted as Kundavai, which is now being played by actor Trisha Krishna in the film.

As per Pinkvilla, the ‘Darbar’ actor said at the trailer launch of Ponniyin Selvan, “When I read the story, I imagined Kamal as Arulmozhivarman, Sridevi as Kundavai, Vijaykanth as Aditya Karikalan and Sathyaraj as Pazhuvettaraiyar”.

The superstar, confesses his ardent love for the original novel series from which the film has been adopted, Amarar Kalki’s Ponniyin Selvan novel series.

The actor emphasises his emotional connection with the period drama story and how badly he wanted to be a part of this film being an ardent lover of the original novel but was refused by the director Mani Ratnam.

“I wanted to be a part of PS1 somehow, so I asked Mani sir if I can play Periya Pazhuvettaraiyar. He denied the offer saying my fans would not be happy. Anyone else would have taken it, but Mani denied it and this is what makes him unique,” he continued.

The forthcoming film has Vikram, Jayam Ravi, Karthi, Prakash Raj, Sarath Kumar, Aishwarya Rai, Trisha, and others in the lead roles and it is declared to get released on September 30.
