Baby Reindeer: Richard Gadd issues statement asking viewers not to speculate the real life people from show

In the era of true crime as genre in media, social media is abuzz following the release of Baby Reindeer on Netflix.

The series, created by Richard Gadd, is based on a true story based on his own experiences. This has led internet sleuths to take things into their own hands and uncover who could be the real life characters, which is leading to wrongfully accusations against innocent people.

The creator is now breaking his silence and recently shared a message with the viewers.

“People I love, have worked with, and admire (including Sean Foley) are unfairly getting caught up in speculation,” wrote Richard in his Instagram Story. He requested the audience further to not “speculate on who any of the real life people could be. That’s not the point of our show.”

In the fourth episode of Baby Reindeer, Richard’s character Donny is groomed and sexually assaulted by successful writer Darrien, played by actor Tom Goodman- Hill.

Some of the fans had speculated that the character being played by Richard was based on Sean, however, it has been denied by him.

The series’ other star, Jessica Gunning, who plays Martha, has also requested the viewers to not to speculate.
