Shah Rukh Khan motivates women’s hockey team after Tokyo Olympics loss

India’s women’s hockey team’s bronze medal loss to Great Britain in the upcoming Tokyo Olympics, Shah Rukh Khan expressed his disappointment on Twitter.

Following India’s women’s hockey team’s bronze medal loss to Great Britain in the upcoming Tokyo Olympics, Shah Rukh Khan expressed his disappointment on Twitter. India was defeated 5-4 in the nail-biter.

In a tweet, Shah Rukh Khan, who had been following the team’s performances throughout the competition, said, “Heartbreak!!! But all reasons to hold our heads high. Well played Indian Women’s Hockey Team. You all inspired everyone in India. That itself is a victory.”

Shah Rukh is most known for his role as coach Kabir Khan in the 2007 sports drama Chak De! India, in which he led an underdog women’s hockey team to victory. Shah Rukh had previously tweeted after the team advanced to the semi-finals, retweeting coach Sjoerd Marijne’s comment about being further delayed due to the team’s advancement. “Haan haan no problem. Just bring some Gold on your way back….for a billion family members. This time Dhanteras is also on 2nd Nov. From: Ex-coach Kabir Khan,” referring to his role in the Bollywood film Chak De! India.”

It’s Chak De! Shimit Amin’s film India was a critical and commercial triumph. It was an uncommon departure from Shah Rukh’s usual romantic portrayals on-screen. Salim-title Sulaiman’s track, performed by Sukhwinder Singh, became an unofficial anthem for Indian sports.

Shah Rukh was last seen on screen in Anand L Rai’s Zero, which he directed. He’ll make his acting comeback in the yet-to-be-announced Pathan, and has a slew of other projects in the works.
