Ayush Mhatre, Captain of India U-19 and World Cup winner, was recently felicitated by MCA President Ajinkya Naik at the prestigious MCA Awards in Mumbai. The gala event, held on April 22, 2026, saw the young prodigy being recognized for his historic achievement in leading the national squad to their record-extending sixth Under-19 World Cup title earlier this year. During his speech, Ayush expressed deep gratitude to the Mumbai Cricket Association for their unwavering support, specifically recalling how the body provided him with his Irani Cup debut at the age of 17, which served as a pivotal stepping stone in his rapid rise to international prominence.
Currently, Ayush is a key member of the Chennai Super Kings (CSK) in the ongoing IPL 2026 season. Although he has been a consistent performer at the top of the order, he is currently recovering from a minor hamstring tear sustained during a match against Sunrisers Hyderabad on April 18. Before the injury, he was in sublime form, having scored 201 runs in six matches, including crucial fifties against Punjab Kings and Delhi Capitals. His focus remains on completing his three-week rehabilitation process to return to the field for the business end of the tournament and continue his momentum in both domestic and franchise cricket.
In terms of his previous and latest projects, the 18-year-old has had a meteoric rise since his first-class debut in October 2024. He recently made history as the youngest player to score over 150 runs in men’s List A cricket, smashing a brilliant 181 for Mumbai. His leadership qualities were first widely recognized when he captained India U-19 during successful tours of England and Australia in 2025, which eventually led to his appointment as the World Cup captain. His standout performance in the 2026 World Cup final against England, where he contributed both with the bat and ball, remains one of the highlights of his young yet storied career.
