Gaiety Galaxy Owner Questions Salman Khan’s ‘Sikandar’ Over Rashmika Mandanna’s Early Exit
Salman Khan’s latest release, Sikandar, which hit theaters a day before Eid, has had a lukewarm response at the box office. Despite a decent performance, the film is struggling to reach the ₹100 crore mark even after five days. While some fans remain loyal, others have expressed disappointment, particularly over the early death of Rashmika Mandanna’s character.
Manoj Desai, the executive director of Mumbai’s iconic Gaiety Galaxy and Maratha Mandir cinemas, has openly voiced public concerns regarding this creative decision. In an interview with Vickey Lalwani, Desai revealed that moviegoers and trade analyst Komal Nahta have questioned why Rashmika’s role was cut short so soon.
“What was the need to kill the heroine so early in the film? What complex did you have?” Desai asked, reflecting public sentiments.
He further addressed Salman directly, acknowledging their long-standing friendship but emphasizing the need for honesty. “I know you will feel bad because of my interview… but I am telling you what the public is saying. I can’t lie,” he stated.
Desai also mentioned receiving a call from Sikandar producer Sajid Nadiadwala, who assured him that the film would eventually find its audience. However, he reminisced about the golden era of Salman’s films, recalling how fans would cheer and whistle in Gaiety Galaxy, a tradition he feels is fading.
With Sikandar’s underwhelming box office performance and critical feedback, it remains to be seen whether Salman and his team will take this public reaction into account for future projects.
