Mumbai Rains: At least14 dead due to hoarding collapsed in Ghatkopar

At least 14 people were killed and 74 injured after a giant billboard collapsed on a fuel station in Mumbai’s Ghatkopar. The havoc had been caused due to the unpredictable dust storm accompanied by rain.

The incident occurred at the police Ground fuel station along the Eastern Express Highway in Patnagar. Videos showed several cars being trapped under the billboard.

A few hours later, a case was filed against Bhavesh Bhide, the owner of the hoarding, by Mumbai Police. Bhide is the director of Ego Media Pvt Ltd, which installed the hoarding. Investigations are underway.

A National Disaster Response Force team has joined the rescue operation, Brihanmumbai Municipal Corporation Commissioner Bhushan Gagrani (BMC), shared with news agency ANI.

The official informed that the injured people were rushed to civic- run Rajawadi Hospital.

Due to the inclement weather and dust storm, the Mumbai airport temporarily suspended flight operations for around one hour, which resulted in at least 15 diversions.

In another incident, an under construction 14 storey metal parking structure collapsed in Wadala, Mumbai, due to heavy winds.
