According to Reuters, Chinese smartphone giant Xiaomi has requested India’s antitrust body to recall a report that found both Xiaomi and Walmart’s Flipkart in violation of competition laws. Xiaomi claims that the report contains sensitive commercial information, which was supposed to be redacted before being shared with the involved parties.
The Competition Commission of India (CCI) began its investigation in 2021, and a recall of the report could delay the ongoing antitrust probe. One of Xiaomi’s concerns is that the report discloses model-wise sales data, which the company considers highly sensitive.
In a similar move earlier this year, the CCI recalled a report on Apple after the company raised similar concerns about the disclosure of confidential business information. Xiaomi hopes the commission will follow the same process, allowing the report to be redacted and resubmitted.
The antitrust investigation found that e-commerce platforms Amazon and Flipkart favored certain sellers and worked with companies like Xiaomi for exclusive product launches on their websites. However, Xiaomi has not raised concerns about data in the report related to Amazon.
