Tragic explosion at Solar Industries factory in Nagpur claims nine lives

A tragic incident occurred on Sunday, December 17, at a factory in Maharashtra’s Nagpur. A blast took place at the Solar Industries India Limited factory around 9:30 am while workers were packing explosives for coal blasting. This factory makes various things for defense purposes.

Unfortunately, nine people lost their lives in the explosion, and three others were seriously injured. The blast happened at the cast booster plant of the company in the Bazargaon region. There were twelve workers inside the unit when the incident occurred.

Harsh Poddar, SP Nagpur Rural, explained, “Nine people died after there was a blast in the Solar Explosive Company in Bazargaon village of Nagpur. This blast happened at the time of packing in the cast booster plant in the Solar Explosive Company.”

The Maharashtra Deputy CM, Devendra Fadnavis, expressed his sorrow, saying, “It is very unfortunate that 9 people, including 6 women, died in the explosion at Solar Industries in Nagpur. I pay my heartfelt respects to the deceased. The state government stands firmly with their families during this sad occasion.” He also mentioned that the company manufactures drones and explosives for the defense forces.

The authorities are still gathering more information about the incident. The Nagpur Collector, Superintendent of Police, and other officials are at the site to understand what happened. Devendra Fadnavis assured that the state government would provide ₹5 lakh to the families of those who lost their lives in this tragic incident.

Ashish Srivastava, the Senior General Manager at Solar Explosive Company, stated, “The incident was reported around 9 am…Nine people have died…All the workmen have been evacuated. The authorities are looking into the matter.”
